Brighton 2-1 Manchester United: Red Devils' top-four hopes dented by dramatic goal
Late penalty from Neal Maupay
Brighton and Hove Albion 2 - 1 Manchester United
Manchester United's hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League suffered a major blow on Thursday as they were beaten 2-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
The Red Devils were looking to bounce back from their disappointing draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend, but they were second best for much of the game against Brighton.
The Seagulls took the lead in the first half through Leandro Trossard, and they doubled their advantage in the second half through Neal Maupay.
Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back for United late on, but it was not enough to prevent them from suffering their second defeat in three games.
The result leaves United in sixth place in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with just two games remaining.
