How to Remove Acrylic Nails at Home
Materials You'll Need
- Acetone
- Cotton balls
- Aluminum foil
- Nail file (coarse and fine)
- Cuticle pusher
- Nail brush
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. File the Surface
Use a coarse file to remove the top layer of the acrylic nails. This will make it easier for the acetone to penetrate.
2. Soak in Acetone
Soak cotton balls in acetone and place them on top of the acrylic nails. Wrap the nails in aluminum foil to keep the acetone from evaporating.
3. Wait and Dissolve
Wait for 15-20 minutes, or until the acrylic has softened. The softened acrylic will start to dissolve.
4. Scrape Off
Use a cuticle pusher or nail brush to gently scrape off the loosened acrylic from the nails.
5. Buff and File
Once the acrylic is removed, use a fine file to smooth out the nail surface. You can also buff the nails to restore their shine.
Tips
- Use pure acetone for best results.
- Avoid soaking the nails for too long, as this can damage the natural nails.
- If the acrylic is particularly thick or stubborn, you may need to repeat steps 2-4.
- Moisturize your nails after removing the acrylic to prevent dryness.
Caution
Acetone is a flammable and toxic chemical. Use it in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhaling the fumes. If you have any skin irritation or allergies, discontinue use and seek medical attention.
